Burpee Broad Jumps in Doubles: HYROX Technique and Strategy

Burpee Broad Jumps in Doubles: HYROX Technique and Strategy

The Burpee Broad Jumps in doubles is the station with the largest cardiovascular component of the entire doubles race.

There is no external load, no machine, no rope. Just the two of you, 80 meters and the ability to maintain a steady pace when the body has already done four kilometers and three stations.

The key in doubles is not to go fast. It's not to collapse. The team that reaches the Rowing without having exhausted themselves on the burpees has a huge advantage over the rest.

In this guide you'll learn how to divide the work, when to switch, which pace to use according to your level and which mistakes destroy most teams at this station.

Let's break it down.

Station distribution: who does what

In the Burpee Broad Jumps in doubles you work in the same lane, one behind the other. Only one athlete works at a time. The one resting follows behind without overtaking.

The change occurs when the athlete performing the exercise stops: the teammate starts exactly from where the other stopped, with their hands just at the height of their feet. No gap, no wasted space.

The athlete who is working

Apply the agreed technique. Stay low in the jumps, remember the horizontal “frog jump” and a quick floor-to-stand transition. Always stop standing, in a position from which the teammate can start cleanly.

The athlete who rests

Follow behind the teammate. Walk to keep heart rate active and get ready to start as soon as the teammate stops, placing your hands just at the height of their feet.

Pacing strategy in HYROX doubles

The most common mistake is irregular blocks: one does too much and the other doesn't recover. This generates poorly executed changes and unbalanced fatigue.

  • Beginners: Blocks of 5 reps each. Prioritize consistency.
  • Advanced: Blocks of 10 fast burpees with frog jump and explosive changes.

Official rules you should know

  • Enter together through the IN, exit through the OUT: Avoid 2-minute penalties.
  • The change: The hands must be exactly at the height of the teammate's feet.
  • Chest and hips to the floor: Each repetition must be complete to avoid the dreaded "no-reps".
