Barcelona, Spain | September 5, 2026
Attention, functional fitness community! Barcelona hosts the first Spanish stop of the 2026 ATHX Games season. ATHX Barcelona takes place on September 5 at Fira Barcelona, right in Montjuïc, one of the city's largest exhibition venues. Expect a competitive atmosphere, world-class indoor facilities, and the usual energy of a sports weekend in Barcelona.
Key event details
Venue:
Fira Barcelona, Av. de la Reina María Cristina, s/n, 08004 Barcelona
Date:
September 5, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM (pick your heat)
How to get there
- Metro: lines L1 and L3, Espanya stop, a few minutes' walk from the venue.
- Airport: El Prat is connected to Plaça Espanya in around 30-35 minutes via Aerobús or Rodalies train plus Metro.
- By car: access via Barcelona's ring roads (Ronda de Dalt / Ronda Litoral); paid parking is available around the Montjuïc area.
The ATHX format
No last-minute surprises: 2.5 hours of continuous competition split across six zones — Warm-Up, Strength, Refuel, Endurance, Recovery and MetCon X — with the same strength, endurance and metabolic test that repeats across every event of the season. Fira Barcelona's large, open halls are a natural fit for a format that needs space for running, rowing and strength work happening in parallel.
This season's three tests
- Strength (20 min): consecutive 1RM Strict Press, 3RM Back Squat and 5RM Deadlift.
- Endurance (30 min): a combination of running and rowing, alternating in segments based on level.
- MetCon X (25 min, time cap): a circuit with Ski-Erg, Ground to Overhead, Sandbag Carry, Box Jump Overs, Walking Lunges and Burpee Broad Jumps.
Categories and pricing
ATHX Barcelona offers three competition levels — ATHX Lite, ATHX and ATHX Pro — in Individual and Pairs format (male, female and mixed).
- Individual entry: €110
- Pairs entry: €220
Spectator tickets are also available for anyone who'd rather watch from the stands, and the organization is looking for volunteers on the day.
Get ready for Barcelona with Velites
Take care of your grip. Between the Deadlift in the strength zone, the rowing in the endurance test, and the Ground to Overhead in the final MetCon, grip is one of the biggest limiting factors in such a long format. Quality hand grips can be the difference between holding on through all three tests or falling apart in the last one.
Gear up like a pro:
- Quad Ultra hand grips, for an unbeatable hold on bar and dumbbell work.
- Hybrid 1.0 and Minimal 1.0 shoes, built to move between running, strength and metcon without changing footwear.
- Wrist wraps, to stay stable through that final zone.

Barcelona: more than just fitness
Make the most of your trip and explore the city after competing:
- Montjuïc: right next to the venue itself, perfect for a recovery walk with views over the city.
- Poble Sec: the neighborhood just behind Fira Barcelona, full of tapas bars and terraces to refuel after competing.
- La Rambla and the Gothic Quarter: a short metro ride away, for the more touristy side of the trip.
